COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State hopes to shore up its defense by hiring Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day announced Tuesday that Knowles will take over as defensive coordinator on Jan. 2, a day after the Rose Bowl game. The current coaching staff will stay intact until then. The 56-year-old Knowles was a finalist for the Broyles Award, which recognizes the nation’s top assistant coach. The Cowboys finished as the third best in the country in total defense (278.4 yards per game) and in the top 10 in several defensive categories.
The City of Manhattan has switched to a new online payment system. With the flip of the calendar to the month of December, Manhattan switched to an online payment platform for sewer and water customers called Paymentus. WICHITA, Kan. — An elderly woman died and her husband was critically hurt after they were stabbed Saturday in Wichita shortly after a truck was stolen and crashed into a nearby church. Wichita Police said 36-year-old Goldy Metcalf who was out of jail on parole was arrested after a series of crimes Saturday morning on multiple charges. The incident began around 8 a.m. Saturday when a suspect took a pickup truck that had the keys in it. The stabbing happened after the truck crashed into a church and caused significant damage. Riley County commissioners have adopted new land development regulations and driveway standards for the county. These new regulations and standards will repeal and replace the current ones on Jan 1. Planning Director Amanda Smeller says there are some regulations that are carrying over. Public hearings were held with the planning board to get recommendations for the current changes. Smeller says most of the recommendations came from an attendee who has a professional background in landscape architecture. The new driveway standards are only for new residential developments and will not be retroactively enforced for current homes. Agricultural uses are exempt. The…
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Police have identified a person killed in a shooting at a party in Kansas City, Kansas, last week as a 16-year-old high school student. Police say Hugo Hernandez-Vasquez died at a hospital following the Friday night shooting in the city’s Shawnee Heights neighborhood that also injured several others. Police say an 18-year-old woman at the party, Ximena Acevas-Vargas, later died of traumatic injuries that were not associated with the shooting, but did not give more details about how she died. Police continue to investigate both deaths, and no arrests have been reported.
