Runners from all age groups showed their support for Shepherds Crossing on Saturday with the 8th annual C. Clyde Run. Taking place at the K-State Student Union’s Bosco Plaza, hundreds of runners and walkers gathered to show their support.  Coordinator and Assistant to the Dean of the College of Business Melanie Horton says they usually average around 300 runners for the event, but saw around 350 this year. “We have runners from all ages, 80s to babies in strollers.  It’s a real family event,” says Horton. (AP) Jorge Soler locked up the AL home run crown with his 48th homer, Brett Phillips drove a game-ending sacrifice fly in the ninth inning and the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 5-4 Sunday in manager Ned Yost’s final game. Phillips’ first career walk-off RBI gave Yost a celebratory send-off on the final day of the regular season. Yost finished 746-839 over 10 seasons leading Kansas City, by far the most wins in franchise history. Alan Murray, the CEO of Fortune, an international media company that is responsible for the Fortune 500, presented the 191st Landon Lecture in McCain Auditorium Friday morning. Murray’s speech, entitled “The Future of Facts: Searching for Truth in the 21st Century,” focused on the importance of facts and truth in both the news industry and society as a whole and how facts and truth are consumed. SALINA, Kan. (AP) — A Salina-based nonprofit that provides child welfare and adult services plans to merge with the former St. John’s Military School, which closed in May after years of litigation over its supervision of cadets. Saint Francis Ministries, an Episcopalian organization, announced Thursday that it will lead a collaboration to establish future uses for the nearly 40-acre campus in north Salina. The Salina-Journal reports the campus name has been changed to St. John’s Ministries and School. The Rev. LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (AP) — A 76-year-old northeast Kansas man has pleaded guilty to trying to rape a 4-year-old girl. FOX4KC reports Galen Hurt, of Linwood, pleaded Thursday in Leavenworth County court to attempted rape and aggravated child endangerment. Hurt was originally charged in 2018 with rape of a child. Investigators say the girl told her mother that Hurt touched her inappropriately while she was at his house. Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson said his decision to offer the plea out of consideration for the girl, who is now 6.
