A Pottawatomie County road will be temporarily closed later this month. Beginning July 19th, Military Trail Road near the southern border of Pott. Co., which runs parallel to HWY 24, will be closed to through traffic from Legion Lane to Swamp Angel Road for a bridge repair. Pott. Co. officials say there will not be a marked detour, and local access will be available. Repairs are expected to be completed by July 30th. A map can be found below.

The Riley County Fire Department was called out to the K-177 bridge over the Kansas River at around 7:30 pm Saturday for a report of a fire. Upon arriving crews found a pile of debris under the bridge ablaze and threatening the structure of the bridge. Because of the location of the fire crews had to spray water from the shore line using the water gun on the engine’s ladder. Crews used around 8,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire, and had to pull water from the river as the engine can only carry around 1,000 gallons, which doing so…

Considerable damage was done at the Manhattan Country Club over the weekend. RCPD filed a report of criminal damage to property in the 1500 block of N. 10th St. in Manhattan on Sunday. The Manhattan Country Club is listed as the victim after an unknown suspect vandalized the pool with graffiti and damaged pool chairs between 9pm Saturday and 7am Sunday. RCPD estimates the total loss with this case to be approximately $800. Anyone with information can contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. A Geary County man has been convicted on a slew of charges for his role in a murder for hire plot. According to the Attorney General’s office, 31 year old Samuel Ibarra-Chu was found guilty folowing a five day jury trial of 21 charges including two counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Sentencing has been set for 1:30 pm on June 25th. The KBI, along with the Geary County Drug Task Force investigated this case and found that Ibarra-Chu conspired with other individuals to hire a hitman to murder two people between July and August of 2018 — an…

Wet weather Saturday didn’t stop the luck of the Irish. The Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Road race was held Saturday, a year after being cancelled for the first time in the event’s history. While it wasn’t the packed sight it once was, parade entrant Michelle Sink says the event turned out awesome. Event staff member and K-State football quarterback Will Howard says despite COVID he thinks the event is important to the Manhattan community.
