For the first time in months a live music event is taking place in Manhattan The Purple Power Animal Welfare Society is holding its first Beer, Bands and Barks fundraiser to help foster dogs thru their program, complete with live music, beer and some Purple PAWS rescue dogs. The Riley County Health Department has issued an order to O’Malley’s and O’Malley’s Alley in Aggieville to close immediately after both were found to be in violation of Local Health Order No. 18. According to a release from the health department, both establishments were found to be in violation of section 2B which states the following: All restaurants and bars are limited to seated areas only. This includes patios. Service or consumption of food or drinks while standing at a counter/bar or in standing-only areas is prohibited. Hundreds drove to Pottawatomie County’s town of Flush for the annual St. Joseph’s Catholic Church chicken dinner. St. Joseph’s normally holds the picnic on the last Wednesday of July every year, featuring activities such as raffles, bingo, and children’s games, as well as the Knights of Columbus hamburger stand. This year’s observation was changed to a drive-thru style event to avoid mass gatherings. KMAN spoke with Scott Haverkamp about the event, and how long the Flush Picnic has been held. The 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley saluted regional healthcare workers for their continued support of Irwin Army Community Hospital and the Fort Riley community on Wednesday with a fly over. Some of the locations included Asension Via Christi in Manhattan, Geary Community Hospital in Junction City, as well as Irwin Army Community Hospital in Fort Riley. The 1st Combat Aviation Brigade used three HH-60M Black Hawk Medical Evacuation helicopters or more commonly known as MEDEVAC’s for the salute. You can view the video of the flyover Manhattan below.

The Boys and Girls Club is hosting its annual Casino Night fundraiser auction Friday, with a twist. The event is moving online due to current health orders in place, and as such has been rebranded as a Virtual Casino Night. Club Director Trent Jones previewed the event this week during the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation Hour. The annual Casino Night fundraiser typically brings in over $100,000 to the Boys and Girls Club. Many live auction items are up for grabs, highlighted by an autographed Patrick Mahomes helmet. The city of Manhattan has announced that, in alignment with Governor Kelly’s Stay-at-Home order, it is extending the closure of facilities to the public through April 19. Critical staff will continue to provide essential emergency and operational services to our community while adapting protocols to reduce exposure and to maintain necessary staffing levels. City Manager Ron Fehr says phone lines are still being staffed and many employees are working remotely to ensure continuity of operations. Teachers at Frank V. Bergman Elementary may not be able to work at the school for the time being or physically be near their students. However many of them came out Wednesday to parade through neighborhoods, in their cars to show students how much they miss and care about them. The teacher parade traveled through Candlewood, Hawthorne Woods, Colbert Hills, Redbud Estates, Pottawatomie Court, and Riverchase Mobile home parks to name a few.
