Currently the host of "KMAN's Morning News", Troy is a 30 year veteran of radio, nearly 20 in northern Colorado, where he served as the "Voice of the UNC Bears" while serving as the news and sports director for one of the oldest AM stations in the country. No stranger to Manhattan nor Kansas, Troy is an alum of K-State in broadcast journalism and grew up near Circleville. He began his broadcast career with KSDB-FM on campus while working part time at another radio station in town. He's married to the former Monica Haugsness of Seneca, who has patiently put up with his schedule for more than 25 years.

K-State football offensive coordinator Collin Klein has removed his name from consideration for the same post at Notre Dame. Heather Dinich of ESPN was first to report Friday morning that Klein declined an offer from the school in South Bend, IND, to remain at his alma mater. Klein was targeted by Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman after Tommy Rees left his post with the Fighting Irish for the Alabama OC job earlier this week. Following a weekend in which the top 2 teams in the AP Top 25 suffered home losses, Kansas State has be installed as a one-seed in the latest CBS Sports “Bracketology”. Analyst Jerry Palm’s projections would place the Wildcats as the top seed in the East, a bracket that would also include coach Jerome Tang’s former employer, Baylor, former Texas head coach Shaka Smart’s Marquette team and soon-to-be Big 12 member Houston. This week’s recruiting notes for Kansas State football provide positives for the team’s offense going into the 2023 season. Wideout Phillip Brooks announced Tuesday that he will return for his sixth season of eligibility, providing a bridge from the 2022 corps to a group of young wide receivers expected to see time in the fall. Brooks finished the past season with 45 catches for 587 yards and four touchdowns and will be the lone returning starter at the position. The bracket for the annual McPherson Boys Invitiational Tournament has Manhattan set for a Thursday night contest as part of a loaded field. The Indians will open with Shawnee Mission East as both enter the final part of this week with three losses thus far this season. The latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association rankings released Tuesday continue to have two Pottawatomie County teams in the top 5 of the 4A Girls poll. Wamego remains number three, Rock Creek is slotted fifth in the class that continues to be lead by Bishop Miege, followed by McPherson. Six of the Kansas City Chiefs opponents for the 2023 season are playoff teams from this year. While the dates for each game won’t be set until later this spring, the Chiefs already know that they’ll have matchups against fellow AFC division winners in Cincinnati and Buffalo. Kansas State’s three-game run of wins over Top 25 teams has landed them just outside the Top 10, as the Wildcats are ranked for the first time in five seasons. Maize High quarterback Avery Johnson, who signed with Kansas State in the early period, has been named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Kansas. The high profile signal caller threw for 2,768 yards and 29 touchdowns with just three interceptions on 153-of-228 aim as a senior in addition to running for 817 yards and 15 scores on 98 carries. Kansas State receiver Malik Knowles used an Instagram post Thursday to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft. A senior with one year of eligibility remaining, he finished 2022 with 48 catches for 725 yards and two touchdowns. He had a year of eligibility remaining because of the COVID year granted by the NCAA. For his career, Knowles totaled 127 catches, 1,867 yards with 14 receiving touchdowns. He added 36 carries for 440 yards and four TD’s rushing. As a special teams performer, Knowles averaged 25.26 yards per kick return.

With Saturday’s Sugar Bowl loss to Alabama marking the end of the season for Kansas State, another player has placed his name in the transfer portal. 6-foot-4 senior defensive end Cartez Crook-Jones is seeking a school to transfer to for his final year of eligibility. The Grandview, MO, native appeared in only eight games in his time in Manhattan to date, registering four tackles. Six players from the Wildcat program have entered the portal since November.
