Look around the City of Manhattan and you’ll see new commercial construction popping up all over the place.
On KMAN’s In Focus Tuesday, City Manager Ron Fehr said his office has received a number of building permits starting to come in, including projects in the Westloop Shopping Center. Demolition recently took place at the former Pizza Hut and Commerce Bank locations.
“Both Scooter’s Coffee and (Tommy’s) Car Wash have both applied for permits and they’re being reviewed. Casey’s (General Stores) has their initial review for their facility on Fort Riley Blvd,” he said.
After nearly two years of anticipation, Fehr says the city has also finally heard from Braum’s, which is planning to expand to Manhattan.
“They’re looking at likely a late summer or early fall start, though we don’t have building plans yet,” he said.
The proposed store will be constructed in the Scenic Crossing area on West Anderson Ave. near the Scenic Drive roundabout. Braum’s currently operates about 300 stores in the Midwest including 27 in Kansas. The closest locations to the Manhattan market are in Salina and Emporia.
