Copple: COVID-19 vaccine side effects appear to be minimal

Ascension Via Christi President and CEO Bob Copple

Those concerned about the side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine likely don’t have much to worry about.

Ascension Via Christi president Bob Copple says many people are only experiencing a little discomfort in the area of the injection. He tells KMAN specifically about an individual at the hospital who recently got the vaccine.

“They were talking about a little shoulder soreness, talking with one of our physicians as he was getting on the elevator and actually said that it hurt less than when he got his flu shot,” Copple said.

He says this reaction has been fairly consistent for those who have experienced side effects.

“I think if you look even at the study results, that was by far the most common response people had,” he said.

According to Copple, there are even some patients who haven’t experienced any side effects.

Vaccines are being administered to health care officials locally in phase one of the vaccine distribution nationwide. Public access to the vaccine likely won’t occur until spring.
