The four victims of an early morning fire in Ogden on Thursday, Jan 31., have been identified, according to a release by the Riley County Fire Department.
72-year-old Roger Harris Sr., 72-year-old Rea Harris, 50-year-old Roger Harris Jr. and 55-year-old Rocky Newell are believed to have died as a result of fume inhalation during the fire on the 200 block of Riley Avenue.
No foul play is suspected. Riley County Fire Chief Pat Collins writes the cause remains unknown, but that “careless smoking” is suspected to have led to the ignition.
“Our hearts go out to the family, friends and the community for such a tragic loss,” writes Collins.

OGDEN — An early morning structure fire in Ogden has claimed the life of four people.
Crews from the Ogden, Riley County and Manhattan Fire Departments were dispatched to 208 Riley Ave around shortly after 3:30 a.m. Thursday. A two-story structure was found with heavy smoke showing.
When crews arrived they removed one individual from the building and later located three other individuals. All four were pronounced dead at the scene. Names of the victims have not been released.
Riley County Fire Chief Pat Collins says while emergency crews were on scene, two Riley County firefighters and one EMS official sustained injuries from falls after water being used to extinguish the fire turned to ice. Those three officials were treated at an area hospital. The paramedic is reported to have suffered smoke damage.
The owner of the building is listed as Roger Harris. The building is said to have been a former business that was renovated into a living space. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Riley County Fire Department, Riley County Police Department, Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Manhattan Fire Department. Collins says the fire started near a couch in the dwelling, but couldn’t say what caused it to catch.
The 200 block of Riley Ave. remains shut down due to a number of firetrucks in the vicinity.

OGDEN — Four people are dead after an early Thursday morning fire in Ogden.
Riley County Fire Chief Pat Collins confirmed to KMAN that four people died in the fire which was first reported in the 200 block of Riley Ave., shortly before 5 a.m. Names of the victims have not been released.
Collins says the State Fire Marshall was on scene and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. More details will be passed along as they become available.
