The Manhattan City Commission discussed potential updates Tuesday to the City Park Master Plan.
Senior Park Planner, Wyatt Thompson says staff has taken months of public input to create two main concepts.
“Both concepts prioritize the pedestrian (and) bicycle access and connectivity through the park (and) they both seek to improve the quality of open green spaces,” said Wyatt Thompson, senior park planner for the city of Manhattan.
The two versions also have several key differences.
“Concept A eliminates vehicular traffic through the park and consolidates and reduces the number of parking that occurs inside the park,” Thompson said “and concept B allows but changes the way vehicles can travel through the park and it seeks to better organize rather than cut parking.”
The Commission was torn on whether or not to deny vehicle access through City Park, but most commissioners were in favor of reorganizing parking availability.
Parks and Rec staff will process Commission input and create a final version for approval by the end of the year.
