Emotions were visible around the room, as a K-State research fellow received his re-sentencing in Riley County Court on Monday afternoon.
Returning to the courtroom, Miles Theurer received a sentence of 3 years and 5 months behind bars for both convictions. Each conviction carries a sentence of 41 months, and they will run concurrently. Following his release Theurer will begin a 36 month probation sentence.
Theurer received re-sentencing after pleading guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter while DUI, in 2013.
Noting that Theurer has been a “model probationer,” Judge Bosch ruled that credit for time served in county jail and on house arrest – which Theurer has been on since his original sentencing in June 0f 2013, will be given.
The judge closed the days proceedings with words of wisdom for the man – simply stating “I hope in prison you can do some good.”
Theurer will report for self-surrender at 9 a.m. next Monday morning.
