Completion Date for Justice Center Pushed Back

Pottawatomie County commissionersThe finishing date for the Justice Center in Westmoreland has been extended another 14 days as the Pottawatomie County Commission approved a change order including the time allotment .

This moves completion to the end of June with moving of departments sometime in July.

During the commission meeting Monday, the board approved three change orders including the chairs for the court rooms and a floor mount for the clerk.

A decision was made to just wait until the end of the project to deal with water accessibility on the outside of the building and also to build storage rooms in the basement for the different departments.

This will give a chance to move and to see what will be left that needs to be stored.

Other items heard by the commission, included three rezonings, two of which would help residential areas and the last would re designate a commercial site to residential.

Chris Trudo, Emergency Management Director, updated the commission on what training his department has been going through. In October, they will be taking part, along with Riley County, Kansas State University, and KDHE for the full scale foreign animal disease training.

There is also still time to get in appeals for the change of value notices sent out earlier in the month.

Anyone looking to appeal needs to contact the Pottawatomie County Appraisers office.

The commission will meet again next Monday, March 25, beginning at 8:30 am.
