Manhattan sales tax receipts are up for August.
Numbers just released indicate the amount collected was $894,136, $28,457.95 more than forecast and higher than last year’s $848,704. It’s also $27,429 more than the budget.
A reminder August figures actually reflect two months prior, or June.
Manhattan Finance Director Bernie Hayen describes the sales tax report as pleasant news on a cloudy day. He says there’s no real news to report regarding which retail sector contributed to the increase and as usual it was somewhat mixed. But there were no notable declines, which Hayen says is always good news.
