Police Find Kidnapping Victim

RCPD CruisersTwo Riley County Police Officers made separate traffic stops that lead to the discovery of a kidnapped teenager in Manhattan.

Early Wednesday morning shortly after one a.m. an officer stopped a vehicle for speeding. During the traffic stop the occupants informed the officer that their 16 year old female friend had been kidnapped by Stephanie Sanborn (30) of Manhattan.

Another officer conducted a traffic stop shortly after 1:10 a.m. Wedesday on a vehicle driven by Sanborn. The vehicle was also occupied by a 16-year-old female and 17-year-old male. The 16 year old female present in Sanborn’s vehicle was identified as the same female reported as kidnapped minutes earlier.

Following the two traffic stops an investigation began and at 9:00 a.m. Stephanie L. Sanborn (30) of of 5527 Stone Crest Drive in Manhattan was placed under arrest for kidnapping and aggravated intimidation of a victim. Sanborn is currently being held at the Riley County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

The 16-year-old kidnapping victim was unharmed during the incident and released to her parents. This specific incident was not a random act of violence as Sanborn and the victim were known acquaintances.
