The election for Pottawatomie County Commissioner of District One is scheduled for August. Current Commissioner Gary Yenzer has been challenged by Dee McKee, a last minute filing, as KMAN recently reported.
Yenzer has served as the County Commissioner for the last four years. Yenzer says he’s always felt like a “public servant” and looks forward to continue his work with the people of Pottawatomie County.
“It’s in my nature, I like to work with people, and help people out as much as I can.”
Yenzer retired after 17 years as a St. George volunteer firefighter. His experience also extends to Riley County where he has worked for 33 years most recently as the Hazardous Waste Program Coordinator. He believes his past work along with his experience inside the government give him an edge.
“I’ve seen government work inside and out, I know how it works, and I know what you have to do to get things on your agenda done.”
One of the things currently on Pottawatomie’s agenda is the Marlatt/Junietta Expansion. Current growth of Manhattan and Pottawatomie county shows need for another roadway around US Highway 24.
Yenzer says it’s in his interest to help push the Marlatt/Junietta Expansion, as well as help control growth, while not raising taxes.
County Commissioner elections will be on August 5th.
