Royals acquire two starting pitchers from Rays for top prospect Myers

In a trade announced on Sunday night, the Kansas City Royals have acquired starting pitchers James Sheilds and Wade Davis from the Tampa Bay Rays for number one prospect Wil Myers.

The trade which had been rumored for days went through late Sunday night and also involves a couple of other Royals prospects. Kansas City also sent right-hander Jake Odorizzi, left-hander Mike Montgomery and third baseman Patrick Leonard to Tampa Bay. The Royals are expected to receive another player to be named or cash in the deal.

Myers was Minor League Player of the Year in 2012 and Royals fans were hoping he would be called up to the Major League club in September but that move never materialized and now he will be wearing a Rays uniform when he does play in Kansas City.
