Manhattan’s City Commission looked to the future at last night’s meeting with a presentation on how to use the remaining 2002 Riley County Roads and Jobs sales tax proceeds. Many items were brought forward, including the recently-discussed improvements to Poyntz Avenue. Mayor Jim Sherow urged caution in deciding what exactly to fund with the economic development dollars, which can be used for a variety of items in the works. Options include multiple companies that wish to locate in Manhattan, with options ranging from animal health to bioscience, and software development. The Commission will look further into the matter in 2012, once more is known about a potential renewal of the sales tax.
