House Fire in Riley County Confirmed to be Starnes Home

By KMAN Staff on June 11, 2012 Local News

KMAN news has just confirmed the house fire in Riley reported on Sunday evening was that of Riley County USD 378 Superintendent Brad Starnes.

Riley County Fire department Chief Pat Collins reports that the house was almost completely destroyed along with two of the family’s vehicles.  The Starnes family escaped injury thanks to a home fire alarm. Two firefighters were injured fighting the blaze, but were treated and released on scene by emergency personnel.

Collins says it looks like the fire started in the garage area on the southwest of the home, and spread to the rest of the house.  Nearly 50 firefighters worked to fight the fire, and many were on the scene until late Monday morning.
