The Manhattan Mercury is reporting that K-State associate athletic director for compliance Jamie Vaughn is leaving the school after three years. Vaughn is taking a similar postion at the University of Nebraska, the state in which he attended Wayne State Colllege and began his career in athletics. He also worked in compliance at Ohio State, New Mexico State, and Texas Tech before coming to K-State.
Vaughn caught the ire of Wildcat fans when the NCAA suspended men’s basketball player Jamar Samuels from the 2nd round NCAA tournament game against Syracuse. Samuels was found to have accepted inpermissible benefits.
K-State athletic director John Currie told the Mercury that he’s grateful to Vaughn for rebuilding the athletic department’s compliance infrastructure, and the department is stronger because of his efforts. Currie says Nebraska’s recruitment of Vaughn is a compliment to K-State.
