During Tuesday’s meeting, the Manhattan City Commission unanimously authorized the purchase of property owned by Feather Field Farms, LLC, for improvements at the Manhattan Regional Airport. City Administration will pay over 1.5 million dollars to the Riley County Clerk of the District Court. Payment to the Court will be financed through issuing temporary notes.
The primary reasons for the acquisition are the complete a Wildlife Fence around the Airport, while at the same time to protect the critical area around the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) operated electronic equipment used by pilots for navigating their aircraft.
A work session was held as part of Tuesday evening’s Manhattan City Commission meeting to examine the possibility of the City entering into an agreement with the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO). The agreement would allow the City to take on the responsibility of officially reviewing projects affecting historic properties under the Kansas State Preservation Statute.
