K-State’s McCain Auditorium was visited Thursday by about 1,500 FFA members from all over the state, accounting for a large part of the 8,800 member organization.
Their annual convention celebrates the success of the association throughout the past year, including recognizing career development events, celebrating supervised agricultural experiences and even recognizing new chapters in the association.
“FFA members are amazing individuals,” State FFA reporter Daryl Simmons told KMAN, “I’m always impressed by the caliber of young adults that we have at this convention and all across the state.”
Activities range from career development events to the recognition of proficiency winners. A few speakers took the stage in McCain as well, including former K-State student and associate head coach at the University of Northern Colorado women’s basketball team, Shalee Lehning, who motivated FFA members by speaking about positive energy and “striving to be the very best.”
“We have a choice,” Lehning mentioned, “We have a choice what attitudes we have. We can’t control the things that happen to us, but we can control how we respond. (I’m) just encouraging kids to understand that they are in control of certain elements of their lives, and they can attack the things they can’t control with positive energy.”
