Manhattan Sales tax numbers for May are in and the City pulled in a total of $1.538,665.
According to City Finance Director, Bernie Hayen, grocery sales were down about 6% for this reporting period compared to a year ago. Big box stores and smaller retailers had mixed numbers with a fairly wide percentage spread (-10 to +10). As usual, Bernie says most restaurants and fast food establishments were comparable to a year ago. Overall, the City continues to remain flat in sales tax collections.
Other tax totals for May include the Compensating Use Tax at $136,036 and the Transportation Dev Dist Tax, which came in at a total of $33,896.41.
The grand total that the City brought in during May is $1,708,598.
