UPDATE 1:54 p.m.: Following the death of an infant last week, a Manhattan man made his first appearance in court Monday afternoon.

Andrew Gibson appeared in Riley County Court via webcam from the Riley County Jail. Judge Meryl Wilson granted Gibson’s request for an attorney.

The man faces charges of first degree murder and abuse of a child. He’ll next appear in court on May 24.

UPDATE 8:57 a.m.: According to Barry Disney, Senior Deputy County Attorney, Andrew Gibson will have his first appearance in court at 1:30 p.m. today in Division II court at the Riley County Courthouse. Formal charges are expected to be announced later this morning.

This original story is as follows:

A Manhattan man faces a first degree murder charge after his arrest Saturday evening. Andrew Lynn Gibson, 25, was taken into custody at his home in the 500 block of Stone Drive at about 7 p.m.

Riley County Police Public Information Officer Matthew Droge indicated Saturday night the arrest was in connection with an infant death investigation earlier in the week. Droge added a news release will be issued first thing Monday with details. The Riley County Attorney’s office is assisting in preparing that release.

As KMAN reported Friday, at approximately 9:19 p.m. Thursday, RCPD officers and additional emergency crews responded to the 500 block of Stone Drive in Manhattan for a report of an infant not breathing.

Upon arrival emergency crews confirmed the infant was not breathing and began resuscitation efforts. However, the infant was not revived and was later pronounced dead at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

Gibson’s bond was set at $500,000.
