A 12-year-old Manhattan-Ogden student is in custody in connection to a suspicious chat on the social media app Discord.

The Riley County Police Department says investigators found no evidence the student planned on, made an effort, or had the means to ever carry out a violent act at Eisenhower Middle School or in the community. Charges against the student are pending. Identifying information is being withheld due to the child’s age.

Police began investigating a possible threat against the school Wednesday night after it became aware of a suspicious message shared on the social media platform. The message did not specify a time for any possible threat. An officer was sent to the school Thursday as a precaution and many parents began picking up their children early from school.

    RCPD is continuing to investigate.

    Original story 11 a.m. Thursday

Riley County Police are investigating a suspicious online chat through a social media platform called Discord concerning a possible threat of violence at Eisenhower Middle School.

The police department says the message did not give a specified time for the possible threat. USD 383 was notified of the message this morning and an officer was placed at the school for protection of students and staff. RCPD continues to investigate the message and is working with school district officials to identify any parties involved.

RCPD says at this time they do not believe there is credible danger to students or staff at Eisenhower Middle School.

A letter sent to parents from Principal Tracy Newell, says that if parents hear any credible information from their student about a planned shooting, to contact the school.

    This is a developing story.
