Manhattan’s seen widespread tree damage following a severe storm that gusted the city with 100 mile per hour straight line winds on Saturday, June 11, prompting the city to coordinate a citywide cleanup effort beginning next Tuesday.
In a similar fashion to the annual citywide Spring cleanup the City of Manhattan organizes around the beginning of April, the community will be divided into zones with different days assigned for crews to pass through to pick up debris.
Residents are encouraged to pile limbs and branches on the ground next to the curb for ease of pickup and to stack the waste in a loose pile. Items for pickup are required to be ready for pickup by 7 a.m. on the day assigned to your city zone. The public is advised that crews will only pass through the area once and that no other waste will be collected.
The cleanup begins Tuesday, June 21 in Southeast Manhattan and will cycle through each of the five zones ending on Monday, June 27 in Northeast Manhattan. No pickups are scheduled on the weekend.
