LARAMIE, Wyoming (Kansas State Athletics) – K-State concluded its ramp up to the 2022 season with a preseason match at Wyoming on Wednesday afternoon, as the homestanding Cowgirls took the exhibition, 2-1, at Madrid Sports Complex.

QUICK FACTS
– K-State was led on Wednesday by freshman Andra Mohler with three shots and registered a second half goal to square the match at one.
– In its two preseason matches, K-State registered a 37-16 advantage in total shots including a 12-9 edge in shots on goal. The Wildcats held a 16-11 lead in shots over the Cowgirls.

HOW IT HAPPENED
– Wyoming collected the first tally of the afternoon, scoring in the 12th minute. Maddie Chance of the Cowgirls collected a pass from Alyssa Glover and finished into the lower right corner.
– K-State put pressure on the Cowgirl net in the final 10 minutes of the first half, as the Wildcat reinforcements, Ruley Baker, Ally Brown, Sophie Harlan, Andra Mohler and Emily Morfeld all registered attempts.
– Mohler continued her strong afternoon with her first goal of the preseason. Mohler found the lower left corner with a right-footed attempt in the 65th minute.
– Just a minute later, the Cowgirls went back in front, 2-1, with a goal from Haylee Rice.
– The Wildcats had a solid chance to square the match at two in the 80th minute. Freshman defender Jazmin Brown tallied a shot on goal toward the lower right corner on a K-State corner kick, but Wyoming goalkeeper Allyson Fischer made the save to stay in front.

FROM THE HEAD COACH
K-State Head Coach Mike Dibbini
“I saw I thought we did a nice job of creating good chances. Their keeper did a nice job of keeping them at bay. Those game changers came in and created a spark for us at different moments in the game, especially when you’re traveling. It’s a tough environment. We went through stretches where we were trying to get the girls on the field that can continue to be efficient and to build. There was a lot of lessons to be learned in this game. It was good for us.”

“We definitely have enough depth. We definitely have players that are versatile in numerous positions which we haven’t had in the past. We have to continue to figure out ways to mesh and gel as a unit and find those partnerships on the field consistently for longer periods of time.”
