Manhattan City Commissioners Tuesday were unanimous in approving new regulations and fees for use of the Aggieville Parking Garage, set to go into effect in January if finalized on second reading by the commission.
The proposed fee structure provides the first hour for free, charging visitors $2 per hour after that with a max of $10 – during the hours between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. There will also be an overnight parking rate that’s reduced on weekends and monthly employee permits.
Aggieville Business Association Executive Director Dennis Cook, though, was hoping to see free parking extended to 3 hours amid continuing construction.
Assistant City Manager Jared Wasinger says the city’s intent is to use license plate reading technology to improve enforcement of longer term on-street parkers.
Commissioners will consider options when the regulations return for final consideration in November.
