Kansas Governor Laura Kelly made a stop in Manhattan this week for the annual Kansas Governor’s Public Health Conference.
Kelly, speaking at the Manhattan Conference Center Wednesday, praised the efforts of those working in the public health field throughout the pandemic and said they were invaluable contributions for the health of all Kansans.
Kelly said Medicaid must be expanded in order to keep Kansas healthy. Despite previous pushback, she said she refuses to give up on this goal.
Kansas is currently only one of ten states that have not approved Medicaid expansion.
Kelly said the program offers significant benefits, and it’s time for Kansas to join its neighbors and approve the expansion.
Kelly also said proper legislation in Kansas can help alleviate and address the ongoing, nation-wide opioid crisis.
