Advance voting is underway ahead of next Tuesday’s presidential preference primary.
Riley County Clerk Rich Vargo said Monday that advance voting will continue through noon on March 18.
“So far it’s been slow in advance voting. We’ve had 400 as of last Friday, which is a very slow pace for advance voting,” he said.
Following Super Tuesday, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump solidified their cases as the front-runners for this year’s presidential election. Other names appearing on the state’s presidential preference primary ballot include Jason Palmer, Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson on the Democratic side and Ryan Binkley, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley on the Republican side. DeSantis, Haley and Phillips have all suspended their campaigns.
In person advance voting will also be offered from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday at the Riley County Office Building. Polls will be open March 19 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Looking ahead to the August primary, Vargo says his office is still in need of additional poll workers.
“We’re down about 20, so we’re actively recruiting new poll workers. Anyone interested in helping out the process, this community every time we’ve made a call out has done a great job of stepping up and helping out,” he said.
Aug. 6 is the date for the primary election in Kansas. The general election is Nov. 5.
