A Manhattan resident is expected to seek the nomination for the Republican Party in the vacated 51st legislative district this fall.
Megan Steele announced her candidacy several weeks back looking to fill the seat left vacated by incumbent Kenny Titus who is running for the State Senate.
Steele has worked as a school nurse and says she’s running to protect our children’s futures.

Steele elaborated further on this by criticizing what she calls “the transgenderism craze with our youth” and an “established medical tyranny.”

Steele also is passionate about education from her time working in the education system. She says she was pleased with the attention the legislature gave to special education funding this last session.

Steele also spoke about the recent tax bill that has caused great debate in the state.

Steele is one of two candidates currently filed to run in the district. Republican Eli Kormanik of Alta Vista announced his candidacy last week. The 51st district encompasses East Manhattan to Wamego as well as rural Pottawatomie County.
Steele currently resides in Manhattan with her husband and five children. The primary is slated for Aug. 6.
