Junction City said goodbye to its longtime city manager Allen Dinkel on Wednesday in a retirement reception at the Municipal Building in Junction City.
Dinkel, who has served 35 years in local government and the last 10 in Junction City said he doesn’t have any concrete plans at this time during retirement, but he hopes to spend most of it with family.
“I’m an auctioneer off to the side, so I’m planning on doing more of that off to the side,” he said. “I wouldn’t be surprised though if I step into an interim position in the county government down the road as well.”
When reflecting back, he also spoke about the biggest takeaway from his career and said that it will always be about the people pointing to his work in towns like Hoisington when a tornado wiped out a third of the town when he came to Junction City to work the city out of severe debt.
“What I’ve learned through it all is just how important the people are,” he said. “That’s the biggest takeaway from my career.”
Dinkel’s replacement has yet to be announced at this time.
