A Junction City man is dead and a Fort Riley man is in custody following a shooting Saturday afternoon.

Junction City Police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 900 block of Kramer Court just before 1 p.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, they found 22-year-old Carron Carter suffering from a gunshot wound. Carter was transported to Stormont Vail Flint Hills in Junction City, where he was later pronounced dead.

Following an investigation, officers arrested 27-year-old Jonathan Lee in connection with the shooting. He was transported to the Geary County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond on a charge of First-Degree Murder. The investigation does remain active, though police officials do say that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact the Junction City Police Department or call Crime Stoppers at 785-762-8477.

The Geary County Sheriff’s Office, the Fort Riley Police Department, and the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division also assisted in the investigation.
