After nine seasons, Junction City Boys’ Basketball coach Nick Perez has decided to step down from his position, announced Monday by Junction City’s Athletic Director Chris Bogenhagen.
Perez was also the coach for the boys and girls golf teams at Junction City.
Perez released a statement to the JC Post, “I cannot thank Junction City enough for the past nine years, they have been amazing,” Perez said. “The students, staff, coaches, players, and community have been tremendous. We couldn’t ask for anything better. To my players, you have all been special to our family. You accepted our kids like they were your siblings. We will miss you all very much. I know whoever takes over will keep this place running. I believe the program is in a very good place, better than when I got here back in 2017. Thank you Blue Jay Nation! Coach Perez and Family!”
Perez’s best season was in 2023-2024 when his team finished 18-3 overall and won the Centennial League for the first time in school history. Last season, the Blue Jays finished 14-8 and lost in the sub-state championship game.
According to the JC Post, Perez has accepted a position as a basketball coach and teacher in Missouri, pending board approval.
Junction City High School will begin the search for a new head coach immediately.
