Manhattan Chamber of Commerce Hosts Candidate Forum

    0
By KMAN Staff on July 23, 2012 Local News

On Monday evening the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce held its candidate forum for county and state races at the Manhattan Arts Center.  The first portion of the event featured a meet and greet with all the candidates, and then the  contended seats participated in formal forums.

The forums featured candidates from the 2 and 3rd districts of the Riley county commission, the 51st, 64th, 66th, and 67th districts, and Kansas Senate District 22.

The candidates fielded a variety of questions, and one of the issues tackled was their stance on the affordable health care act, or Obamacare.  The responses from the Kansas Senate candidates showed a very clear distinction between their views.

Kansas Senator Dr. Roger Reitz sees the act as a good beginning, and bringing health care to those who were previously not covered by health insurance.

Senate Candidate Joe Knopp believes the health care act has a lot of work to be done at the federal level, and there are other issues involved with healthcare that are closer at hand.

Senate Candidate Bob Reader is opposed to the act, and believes that the affordable health care act will bankrupt the United States.

Early voting begins  on Tuesday at 08:00am.
