K-State hires Clement as new hitting coach

By KMAN Staff on August 16, 2012 K-State Sports

K-State head baseball coach Brad Hill has hired Mike Clement as his new hitting coach.  Clement replaces former associate head coach John Szefc, who left the Cats after two seasons to become the head coach at Maryland.  Clement has spent the last three seasons at Texas A&M as a volunteer assistant, working with former K-State hitting coach Andy Sawyers.  He previously was on the Texas-San Antonio staff for four seasons, including three years as a full-time assistant.

Clement is a Marshalltown, Iowa native, where his father Brad is a hall of fame coach who won three state championships.  Mike played at Kirkwood Community College for two years before graduating from Morningside College in Sioux City.  His brother Jeff was an all-American at USC and a first round draft pick of the Seattle Mariners.  He’s played eight seasons in the majors and minors, and is currently with the triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
