    Accident on Bluemont

By KMAN Staff on November 6, 2012 Manhattan, Riley County, Top Story

A traffic accident occurring Tuesday evening resulted in two people being injured, one of which was life flighted.

Around 6:45 p.m., three vehicles were involved in an accident on the 800 block of Bluemont, just 50 feet from the intersection of Bluemont and 8th street.

Vehicle one side swiped vehicle two, and then entered oncoming traffic, striking vehicle three head on.

Vehicle one was driven by KSU student, Corey Monley (18).  He was driving his 1994 tan Honda Accord.  KSU student, Kyle Bannerman (19), was a passenger in Monley’s vehicle as well.

Vehicle two was a blue 2006 Honda Accord, driven by Jared Kaunley (22) of Manhattan.

The third vehicle was driven by Stephanie Mendoza (19) of Manhattan, who was injured but refused treatment.  Mendoza had two passengers in her vehicle, Jeanette Galan (26) of Manhattan and Bella Lara (2) of Manhattan.

Lara was transported by Riley County EMS to Mercy Regional Health where she was treated and released.  Galan, however, was life flighted to Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita where she was admitted for life altering injuries to her neck and pelvis.

An arrest was also made in conjunction with this accident.  Monley, driver of vehicle one, was arrested at the scene of the accident for aggravated battery, DUI of alcohol or drugs, and abuse of toxic vapors.

RCPD reported that Galan’s injuries were more than likely a result of Monley’s aggravated battery.
