The Riley County Senior Service Center had a large turn-out for its soup supper and silent auction Thursday night–and the group attending wasn’t necessarily what you’d expect. The 120 attending included at least 20 “younger” folks, according to Director Jami Ramsey.
Ramsey adds there were a variety of soups to choose from, with 30 gallons of soup from area restaurants. Auction items were also plentiful. Benefits go toward programs and activities at the Senior Center.
Manhattan City Commissioner Karen McCulloh, who also serves on the Senior Center Board, mentioned the newly refurbished Center, thanks to a grant that came to Manhattan through a HUD CDBG grant, as a metropolitan area.
Dick Towers sampled several of the soups, which numbered more than a dozen varieties. Towers was also impressed with the Senior Center’s newly refurbished facility…
The dollar amount of money raised was $1,628 up from last year’s $1,216.
