Allen Wins 6A Coach of the Year

By John Kurtz on December 1, 2014 Manhattan High School, Sports

In her final season as head coach, Manhattan High girls tennis coach Joyce Allen was named the 2014 6A girls tennis coach of the year. Allen had two state qualifiers this season in Cathy Lei and Kristen Fraley.

Lei finished 8th at state, and Fraley finished 11th in leading the Indians to a 7th place finish as a team. Fraley will sign with Emporia State on Wednesday. Lei and Fraley combined for seven state appearances in their careers.

Allen, who just finished her 26th season at MHS, has only missed out on having a state qualifier once since taking over in 1989. She will finish the boys tennis season this spring before retiring from teaching and coaching.
