The Manhattan high girls and boys basketball teams open up the season Friday night at the MHS gymnasium with a sweep of Dodge City. In the first game, the girls dominated the Lady Demons 58-25.

The Tribe was paced by Caroline Ballard who finished the game with 19 points, Amara Ehie also provided 10 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists.

MHS led by 10 points at the half but outscored the Lady Demons 31-8 in the second half.

The boys contest was a much different story as MHS and Dodge City went the distance, but it was MHS knocking down clutch free throws late to pull away from Dodge City 69-61.

Under first year head coach Benji George, the Indians were led in scoring by Pierson McAtee with 22 points, including 17 in the second half. Gabe Awbrey provided 19 points for MHS.

Manhattan gets to rest up before a trip to Topeka West next Friday night. We’ll have coverage of MHS and Topeka West on KMAN.
