    Manhattan High Claims Centennial League Titles

    Manhattan High basketball closed out the regular season in grand fashion on Friday night at the MHS gym with a sweep over the Seaman Vikings.

    The MHS girls closed out the regular season with a 49-39 win over the Lady Vikes that gave the Lady Indians a share of the Centennial League title with Washburn Rural. Its the second straight league title and third in the last four years for Scott Mall’s group.

    The six girls representing the senior class go out as the most decorated group to go through MHS. Caroline Ballard, Amara Ehie, Molly Fiser, Savannah Roberts, Savannah Thaemert and Kylie James complete their four year run with 73 wins, three league titles and two state tournament appearances. The MHS girls close out the regular season with a 16-4 record, 10-3 in Centennial League play. Gigi McAtee led the MHS girls with a game high 16 points.

    The Lady Indians are the #1 seed in Sub State and will host Wichita Southeast next Thursday night at the MHS Gym for the opening round of Sub State action.

    The Manhattan High boy’s basketball team survived a late second half push from the Vikings to escape 68-60 and close out the season as outright Centennial League champions.

    The Tribe finishes the regular season at 18-2 overall, 12-1 in Centennial League play. Pierson McAtee, Garrett Francis and Cole Dillon were the three seniors recognized on senior night. The Tribe was led in scoring by Trevor Hudgins with 18 points, McAtee finished with 16 points.

    The MHS boy’s will host Washburn Rural next week in the first round of Sub State action on Wednesday night. Manhattan swept the two game series with the Junior Blues this season.
