The Yes for Liberty Constitution Bee ended up with 25 finalists, who came to Manhattan from the far southwest corner of the state to the far northeast portion of Kansas. Chair of the event, Robert Deemie, was pleased with the turnout Sunday at the Kansas State University Alumni Center, especially with what started out as a snowy weekend. He told KMAN it was the biggest group yet of “real sharp, intelligent high school students.”

Deemie says new technology featured a clicker system, so a practice test was provided prior to the actual event.

$5,750 worth of scholarships are awarded, with the winner receiving $3,000. Some of those participating have before–with some actually trying four times from their freshmen to senior years.

The scholarships can be used for any post secondary education, including four year colleges, community or technical colleges, or even flight schools.

The group even had a special guest, “George Washington” participate in the festivities, which also included a musical group performing patriotic songs at the beginning of the fourth annual event.
