The Riley County Commission discussed the 2024 Riley County District Court budget during their Thursday meeting.

This discussion was to decide to approve or deny the court budget. The budgeted amount of $185,080 was already listed in the county 2024 budget, which was approved previously.

The Commission motioned to approve and send the budget to the Office of Judicial Administration for final approval. The motion was passed.

Residential property sales in Riley County are up from July. Riley County Appraiser Anna Burson presented a staff update at Thursday’s Commission meeting.

The Appraiser’s Office has started working on the residential market analysis.

There were 786 sales on record for August, 700 of which were residential. This is an increase over July. Current residential sales ratio remains at 95%. Median sale price is $236,000 which is up $13,000 over July.

This month sees 233 building permits, 33 of which are new residences.

The Appraisers office is now fully staffed, and new hires are presently being trained.

Executive Vice President/Economic Development Director Daryn Soldan presented the current activities of the Chamber.

The Chamber hosts career fairs throughout colleges and universities in the state as well as Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa, as well as veteran’s focused fairs. Recently there was a veteran’s job fair in Junction City, but there are more coming.
