I-70 is seeing more accidents as reports began coming in at about 7:15 Friday morning of maybe seven vehicles involved in a rollover accident at the 322 milemarker. About an hour later, that number increased to multiple accidents along a 16 mile treck between milemarkers 322 to 338.
Riley County Police, Kansas Highway Patrol, and EMS were all on scene. The number of people injured is still yet to be determined.
According to both Riley County Police Public Information Officer Mat Droge and Kansa Highway Patrol Lt Greg Harkrader, the cause is due to ice on the roads.
Droge mentions a number of vehicles have pulled to the side of the road to avoid the ice.
If anyone is needing to travel east on I70, you are encouraged to find alternative routes as I70 will be slow going for a while.
Droge does remind people to slow down and maintain distance.
KMAN will continue to bring you details as they become available.
