One person is dead following a three-car accident on Tuesday afternoon on US-77 in west central Junction City. The accident occurred just before 5 p.m. when a 2021 Subaru Outback was traveling northbound near milepost 154 when it crossed the center line striking a 2009 Infinti G37. The Infinti, driven by Kaleb Jones-Bransford, 21, of Poca City, Oklahoma, struck a guard rail and came to a rest in the West ditch. Conversations continue about how to pay for school resource officers in the county. Riley County Law Enforcement Agency Board members on Monday batted around ways of funding a greater police presence in schools, something they limited in this year’s budget. Board chair John Matta, a Manhattan city commissioner, said that other police department’s funding models need to be studied before a new board takes over in January. Two men charged in the murder of a local man last month are set to be in court on Tuesday afternoon for a status hearing. 31-year-old Antwajuane McNeil and 20-year-old Aiden Keener of Ogden were arrested by police and charged with a slew of charges headlined by charges of 1st degree murder following the shooting death of Manhattan resident Don Stovall on the evening of Saturday Oct. 19. Police arrested Keener the following morning after conducting a search warrant in an Ogden home and McNeil was arrested later that week. RCPD filed a report for motor vehicle theft on Monday afternoon after a man reported that someone test drove his motorcycle and never returned it. Officers filed the report just before 1 p.m. in the 900 block of Village Drive and list a 49-year-old man as the victim in this case. The man reported to police that an unknown suspect test drove his blue Yamaha motorcycle and never returned it to him. Total loss with this report is estimated at $5,000. Four soldiers stationed on Ft. Riley were arrested over the weekend in Manhattan. Officers first arrested 22-year-old Zachary Davis just before 6:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of Beechwood Terrace, arresting him on probable cause offenses of making a criminal threat, aggravated battery and criminal damage to property. Davis was booked into Riley County Jail and remains confined at the time of this report on a bond of $14,000. Officers later arrested two more soldiers at approximately 8:45 p.m. at the Riley County Jail. A man was not seriously injured after a Sunday evening accident on I-70 involving a deer. The accident occurred on I-70 less than a mile east of Deep Creek Road when a 67-year-old Topeka man Todd Harmon was injured after colliding with a deer in his 2022 Kia Soul. Harmon was transported to Via Christi for a suspected minor injury. He was properly restrained at the time of the crash.

One was taken to a local hospital on Friday morning following an injury accident on US-24 in Pottawatomie County. The accident occurred just after 7:30 a.m. in the eastbound lane of U.S. 24 near Blackjack Road when a 2024 Kia Telluride driven by Michael Pilat, 57, of St. George was stopped at a stop sign. Pilat attempted to cross the road onto the eastbound lanes but never saw Awa Massounga Bora who was driving a 2016 Nissan Versa. The Nissan then proceeded to strike the Kia causing the accident. Massounga Bora was taken to KU-Medical for a suspected serious injury.…

Unemployment went up in Kansas for the month of October from 3.3% in September to 3.4%. Seasonally adjusted job estimates for Kansas indicate total nonfarm payroll employment decreased by 200 from September. Total nonfarm includes private sector and government employers. Private sector jobs decreased by 1,500 over the month, while government increased by 1,300. Since October 2023 Kansas’ seasonally adjusted total nonfarm jobs have increased by 20,900. This change is due to an increase of 15,900 private sector jobs and an increase of 5,000 government jobs. Employment data for the state is released every third Friday of the month.
