KANSAS CITY — A lawsuit alleges that a man from Kansas City, Kansas, who spent 23 years in prison for a double murder he didn’t commit was targeted because his mother rebuffed a homicide detective’s sexual advances. Forty-two-year-old Lamonte McIntyre and his mother, 64-year-old Rose Lee McIntyre, sued Thursday in federal court. Lamonte McIntyre was freed last year . OLATHE — Authorities say a small alligator has been found under a vehicle in suburban Kansas City. Police in Olathe, Kansas, say in a Facebook post that an animal control officer captured the gator earlier this week. The post says it’s “Something you don’t expect to see in Kansas.” The gator is spending the week in a shelter before heading to a reptile rescue in Manhattan next week. OLATHE — The head election official for Kansas’ most populous county is pledging to have “dazzlingly fast” results after fixing a problem that left the rest of the state waiting more than 12 hours for primary election results. The Kansas City Star reports that Johnson County Election Commissioner Ronnie Metsker said Thursday that software that was blamed for the Aug. 7 delays has been updated and “exhaustively tested.” Johnson County rolled out new machines for the primary election. Amid a slew of other tailgates, one tailgate will be raising awareness about mental health as well as raising funds. Carl’s Cause along with K-State Counseling Services and the Wildcat Wellness Coalition organized the tailgate in memory of K-State graduate Carl Sprecht. Carl Sprecht was diagnosed with bipolar disorder while attending K-State before taking his own life in 2017. Saturday would have been his 29th birthday. The 23rd annual Cats for Cans food drive will be taking place during tomorrow’s game. The drive is organized by the K-State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. They’ll be accepting donations of canned food or cash starting at 9 a.m. in the Bill Snyder Family Stadium parking lot and at all stadium entrances. This year’s goal is to raise $5,000 pounds in food and $12,000 dollars in cash donations. All donations go to the Flint Hills Breadbasket in an effort to fight hunger in Manhattan. OLATHE — Two men have been charged in a string of suburban Kansas City robberies that led to one of the suspects exchanging gunfire with an officer. The Kansas City Star reports that 23-year-old Pedro Antonio Torres and 18-year-old Mario Jimenez were charged Wednesday with five counts of aggravated robbery. Jimenez also was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Torres had an additional felony theft charge. Their attorneys didn’t immediately return phone messages. WICHITA — Officials for a Wichita school are raising concerns that trains are stalled for so long on nearby tracks that students are crawling under boxcars and across the couplings to get home. The Wichita Eagle reports that Hamilton Middle School principal Justin Kasel says trains traveling just north of the school sometimes are stopped for up to an hour, tying up traffic.
