TOPEKA — The cost of protesting at the Kansas Capitol in Topeka is increasing sometimes substantially. Currently, Kansas charges $20 for any event at the Capitol. But beginning Jan. 1, it will charge based on the size of the event and other factors. The lowest price will be $50 for events that require no setup or cleanup. The Kansas City Star reports factors increasing the price will include if groups require a podium, access to the public address system or tables and chairs. All four Kansas representatives in Congress voted in favor of the House tax bill Thursday. The next step is for the Senate to pass its version, which is reported to have substantial differences. Kansas’ representatives in the U.S. House are Republicans Roger Marshal of the 1st District — which includes Manhattan — Lynn Jenkins of the 2nd District, Kevin Yoder of the 3rd District and Ron Estes of the 4th District. A Manhattan man faces a $20,000 bond following his arrest Thursday night. Larry Jones, 46, was taken into custody in the 800 block of Colorado Avenue in Manhattan at approximately 10:05 PM. Jones was arrested on a Riley County District Court warrant for failure to appear. ### Riley County Police Officers filed a report for theft in the 400 block of South 3rd Street in Manhattan Thursday. In a Facebook post Thursday morning, college football reporter Brett McMurphy shed light on the coaching situation at Kansas State and detailed a since-abandoned 2016 plan to make Oregon defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt the coach-in-waiting at the school. The plan, put together by former athletic director John Currie and current K-State president Richard Myers, was shot down by Bill Snyder due to Snyder’s desire for his son, Sean, to succeed him, McMurphy reports. The Geary County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help in an attempted burglary case. According to a press release from the Geary County Sheriff’s Office Thursday, deputies responded to Hildebrand Farms Dairy on Rucker Road just west of Junction City at approximately 3 a.m. Monday morning. Authorities say an unknown suspect forced entry into the business and attempted to remove property. Security video shows an individual wearing blue jeans, a dark hooded jacket and face covered. The Pottawatomie County Commission voted 3-0 Monday that it is opposed to the possible listing of the Pottawatomie County Courthouse on the National Register of Historic Places. Properties with such a listing are eligible to qualify for state tax credits and the Heritage Trust Fund grant program. Consideration of the courthouse’s nomination to the National Register will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Kansas Museum of Natural History by the Kansas Historic Sites Board of Review. A 62-year-old Kansas Department of Corrections inmate serving time for a 1986 aggravated robbery in Geary County has just been released. Archie Watkins Jr. was released by the KDOC November ninth. Watkins parole hearing was in September after August public comment sessions. Watkins had been serving time since his sentencing in April of 1987. He most recently had been at the El Dorado Correctional Facility. According to KDOC records, he currently is in Sedgwick County post incarceration.

The arraignment of a Manhattan man charged with first degree murder and attempted first degree murder was held earlier than originally scheduled this past Monday. As KMAN previously announced Steven Harris had been scheduled for a November 27th arraignment, but attorneys appeared in Riley County Court Monday and requested the arraignment be moved up and heard that day. Harris entered a not guilty plea and the jury trial has been set for five days, to begin March 26th of next year in front of Judge Meryl Wilson.
