KMAN has been looking into a report from several sources about an alleged sexual assault occurring in Pottawatomie county outside Wamego early last week.When asked about the alleged incident, Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riat would not comment, confirm or deny the sexual assault allegation. He did say his office is actively investigating an incident involving a juvenile over the age of 14 that occurred outside Wamego on Tuesday, June 6th. TOPEKA — A Kansas man is accused in a criminal complaint of looking for a mother and child to enslave for sex. The U.S. attorney’s office says 63-year-old Michael David Mitchell, of Ottawa, told an undercover investigator posing as a woman with a daughter that he would take care of her but that “it won’t be easy on either of you.” He described himself as “a sadist” who enjoys “inflicting pain.” Court documents say he also told them he was willing to pay them. Local initiatives which target substance abuse will not be receiving as much money as desired from the Special Alcohol Fund in 2018 because of a decline in sales tax collected from liquor and beer. On Tuesday evening, Manhattan City Commissioners heard about more than $800,000 in requests made to the Special Alcohol Fund Advisory Committee for the upcoming budget. KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A 70-year-old man who said he robbed a Kansas City, Kansas, bank so he could get away from his wife blamed his actions on depression. A federal judge on Tuesday sentenced Lawrence John Ripple to probation. Ripple went to the Bank of Labor a block from the Kansas City, Kansas, police headquarters last September and gave a note to a teller saying he had a gun and demanding money. A German short-haired pointer dog that became a local icon this spring has been transferred to a breed-specific animal shelter. A press release from the City of Manhattan’s Parks and Recreation Department states Buck, a dog that was facing euthanasia after mauling a toddler, was transferred into the shelter late Monday evening. A family adopted Buck from the T. Fort Riley has confirmed the death of one its soldiers Tuesday. As KMAN reported Monday, 23-year-old Xavier Harden was found dead Sunday at Milford Lake. According to Fort Riley, Harden, a food service specialist with Forward Support Company D, 5th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Inf. Div., entered the lake from a boat at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday and did not resurface. TOPEKA — Flags are being flown at half-staff in honor of Kansas Rep. Patsy Terrell who was found dead last week in her hotel room near the Capitol. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that flags will remain in that position at all state buildings, state grounds and state facilities through Saturday, when she will be interred. The Hutchinson Democrat was found dead last Wednesday. Topeka police said they didn’t believe foul play was involved. An injury accident occured east of downtown Manhattan yesterday afternoon. Riley County officers responded to a report of an injury accident in the 100 block of East Poyntz Ave at approximately 3:50 PM Monday. When officers arrived on scene, they found an ivory-colored 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser, driven by 79-year-old James Miley of Manhattan, on it’s side. The vehicle had been struck by a silver 2007 Buick Lucerene driven by 58-year-old Roger Eaton of Manhattan.
