Two men from Los Angeles, Calif., were arrested for drug charges Friday morning. Hector Jugo Lima, Jr., 20, and Frederick John Carl Lima, 23, were arrested on I-70 near mile marker 316 east-bound for Manhattan for the sale and distribution of stimulants and marijuana. Both men were put on bond for $10,000 each and as of this report were confined in the Riley County Jail.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) A Kansas City, Kansas, man has been charged with child abuse after police responded to an armed disturbance that led them to discover human remains at a barn on his property. Forty-four-year-old Michael A. Jones also was charged Friday with aggravated battery and aggravated assault with a firearm. He is being held on $10 million bond. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) An annual Lawrence holiday tradition will be rescheduled because of a winter storm. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that firefighters had been scheduled to rescue Santa Claus on Friday night from a downtown rooftop using a ladder truck. The rescue is part of the town’s Christmas lighting celebration. But Downtown Lawrence Inc. director Sally Zogry says that with near-freezing temperatures and precipitation throughout the day, the lights will be switched on with a timer instead. The eastbound lane of I-70 is back open after a vehicle accident near mile marker 322. According to Riley County Police Department dispatch, a Semi-truck jackknifed in the east-bound lane of 1-70 at mile marker 322, which is half a mile from Riley County/Wabaunsee line. All eastbound traffic was shut-down for a couple of hours at the intersection of I-70 and 177 at mile marker 313.

But the state argues the law is a proper exercise of longstanding legislative authority. District Judge Larry Solomon of Kingman County has been challenging a 2014 law that says judges in the 31 judicial districts in Kansas pick their chief judges, taking that authority from the Kansas Supreme Court. KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) Authorities have found human remains in Kansas City, Kansas, while investigating the disappearance of a 7-month-old boy. Police said in a news release that the investigation began after officers responded Wednesday to an armed disturbance. An allegation was made during the investigation that the baby had been missing for “an extended period of time” and was possibly dead at a nearby residence.
