WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A magistrate judge has released on $25,000 bond the passenger who allegedly threatened to bring down an American Airlines flight after being refused a beer. Thirty-eight-year-old Jason Baroletti of Holbrook, New York, was ordered on Friday as one of his release conditions not to travel by commercial airline. FORT RILEY — Memories resurfaced on Friday morning as over 100 veterans from all branches marched through the hangar doors at Marshall Army Airfield to cheers, applause, and patriotic music. The scene was much different than what these men experienced nearly 50 years ago when they returned home from the Vietnam War. A couple of Kansas Department of Corrections inmates serving time on Riley County convictions are up for public comment sessions in January. Danny Lee Sprecker, 66, was sentenced in 1973 for second degree murder and in 1969 for rape. He’s currently being held at El Dorado. Anthony Juan Murphy, 50, has been in prison on several charges, with the most recent a 2013 case involving aggravated sexual battery and other sexual related counts. TOPEKA — The Kansas Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence for a convicted serial killer who stuffed several of the bodies of his female victims into barrels. The ruling Friday in the case of John E. Robinson Sr. marks the first time justices have upheld a death sentence since Kansas reinstated capital punishment in 1994. Robinson was sentenced to death for killing two women in Kansas, in 1999 and 2000. The justices upheld his death sentence in a 415-page ruling that also addressed numerous technical arguments raised by Robinson’s attorneys. A Manhattan man was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon. Denzel Leonard, 22, was arrested on Thursday at approximately 2:30 p.m. while at his home in the 2000 block of Tecumseh Road. Leonard was arrested for the offense of criminal possession of a weapon by a felon after officers found him to be in possession of a firearm. He was given a bond of $5,000 and at the time of this report he was confined at the Riley County Jail. TOPEKA — State officials are preparing to issue a new fiscal forecast and it could leave the state with a projected deficit in its current budget again.
