The organizers of Saturday’s 27th-annual Juneteenth celebration in Manhattan’s City Park knew there would be some people who wouldn’t shy away from playing in the water in the middle of a summer afternoon in the heartland. Teams competed in a car wash contest — with Rose Royce’s 1976 hit “Car Wash” playing in the background, of course — and the park wasn’t without vendors and community organizations. The K-State Women’s basketball team and coaching staff is hosting a special summer event on Sunday June 19th at Bramlage Coliseum from 4-6pm. There will be activities for all ages; face painting, a photo booth, and game stations to compete against Wildcat student athletes.  Willie the Wildcat will be there, and the first 200 fans in attendance get a free ice cream sundae!  The team will also be signing autographs. A Wamego man was arrested Friday night for three counts of aggravated incest. Martin Ray Johnson, 39, was arrested at 7:45 p.m. Friday evening at 4400 River Pond Rd., which is in Tuttle Creek State Park just north of Manhattan. According to the arrest report from the Riley County Police Department, the victim is between the ages of 16 and 18. Johnson was released on a $50,000 bond.

The state’s May seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.7 percent. This was down from 3.8 percent in April and from 4.2 percent in May 2015. Officers with the Riley County Police Department arrested Cheyenne Schlaack, 24, of Milford, on Thursday at approximately 8:40 p.m. Schlaack was arrested while at the Riley County Police Department on a warrant with the offenses of computer unlawful acts (false representation with damage) and theft of property or services. She was given a bond of $5,000 and at the time of this report she was not confined at the Riley County Jail. This warrant stems from and incident occurring between January and April 2016. TOPEKA — Kansas legislators are considering proposals to curb the power of the courts as they grapple with a recent state Supreme Court ruling on education funding. The state House and Senate judiciary committees were convening a joint meeting Friday to discuss proposed amendments to the state constitution to block the courts from threatening to close schools in education funding lawsuits.
