Migrants and refugees blocked the main highway connecting Serbia and Hungary saying they will refuse food and water until they are allowed to cross into Hungary. Hungarian officials closed some of its border crossings with Serbia on Tuesday.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) The University of Kansas will not follow recommendations from a task force on sexual assault that it change how freshmen are recruited and housed at fraternities and sororities. The university announced Monday it has, or soon will, implement 22 of 27 suggestions from the Chancellor’s Task Force on Sexual Assault. HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) A pumpkin weighing in at 1,034 pounds has squashed the Kansas State Fair record. The Wichita Eagle (http://bit.ly/1Ot0OXU ) reports that Garden City’s Donovan Mader grew the monster in his abandoned horse pen. The pumpkin was 57.8 pounds heavier than the one that set the state record in 2007. Long lines of gawkers have been viewing the pumpkin at the Kansas State Fair’s Pride of Kansas building. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Claims of sexual assault and harassment at the Sedgwick County jail are up for the second year in a row. The Wichita Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/1US1DP2 ) that the number of allegations substantiated after internal investigations remained unchanged at four each of the past two years. Data filed with federal authorities shows 37 allegations of inappropriate sexual misconduct, harassment or contact last year. That compares with 30 such claims in 2013. A Missouri man faces several charges in Riley County, following his arrest Monday night. Officers with the Riley County Police Department arrested Scott Durocher, 35, of Belton, Missouri at approximately 9:20 PM while at the Riley County Police Department. Durocher was arrested for two counts of failure to appear, with the original offense of driving while suspended. A Riley County man who was one of many arrested in a large drug bust on Aug. 13, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday morning in the Riley County District Courthouse. Kevin Siebold, 51, was arrested on the offenses of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was given a bond of $7,000 and is still confined in the Riley County Jail. Siebold will return to court on Sept. 29 at 10:30 a.m.

A Silver Lake man has been bound over on charges relating to a head-on collision near Wamego last fall that left two men injured. Cameron Renfro faces an October 16th arraignment on the aggravated battery while driving under the influence charge. As KMAN reported last October, Renfro and Jeffrey Fisher of Wamego were life flighted following the accident on Highway 24 east of Wamego. Renfro and Fisher were the drivers in the head-on collision and were trapped and had to be extricted from the pickup and car that collided.
